About Us
Laikipia Grain Handlers Company (LGH) is a limited liability company registered in Kenya, East Africa. We trade in bulk agricultural commodities, across the vast sub-Saharan region and beyond; seeking to play our role in bridging the gap between surplus producing areas and deficit areas and in the process avert food or raw material shortages. Key to our success is the healthy relationships we build with other players in the supply chain, from farmers to retailers, to ensure a reliable and sustainable business model that accommodates the interest of all parties in an integrated unit.
We have invested a lot of time to establish networks with world leading players in the international agro-commodity trade, to ensure delivery of products that could exceed our capacities.
Citing from the recent FAO State of Food Insecurity in the World 2014 report, between the years 2012 and 2014, 23.5% of the Sub-Saharan Africa population was undernourished.
One of the many factors attributed to this, is the poor handling, storage and distribution of food in the region. It is on the backdrop of this understanding, that Laikipia Grain Handlers Company (LGH) was formed.
Our History
LGH is a family-run private limited liability company, initially formed as a sole proprietor business with its main area of operation being in Kenya. We have since slowly diversified to extend interest into Uganda, Tanzania, DRC, South Sudan and lately Malawi, where we have contracted active agents who source and engage our suppliers pre-planting, in readiness for post-harvest trading.
With an ever growing population in Sub-Sahara Africa, expected to more than double, rising from 1.1 billion today to at least 2.4 billion by 2050, (according to the Population Reference Bureau report (2013 World Population Data Sheet)); there is absolute need to feed and ensure food security for a growing population in a sustainable way.
